THE DIARY OF THE RELAIS BELLARIA

Jack Vettriano Exhibition at Palazzo Pallavicini: Where Mysterious Atmospheres Meet Romanticism

Bologna is hosting an event in these months that is destined to leave its mark on the Italian artistic scene. Until July 20, 2025, the magnificent halls of Palazzo Pallavicini are hosting for the first time an exhibition entirely dedicated to Jack Vettriano, the recently deceased celebrated Scottish painter who, with his cinematic atmospheres and unmistakable style, has won over collectors and art lovers worldwide.

The retrospective offers a comprehensive overview of the artist’s production, with over 70 of his most iconic and representative works, including four original oil paintings and limited-edition works created by the artist specifically for this exhibition. Further enriching the exhibition are the intense shots by Francesco Guidicini, official photographer of the Sunday Times, who captured Vettriano in his studio, revealing his most intimate side.

Born in Scotland in 1951 to a family of Italian origins, Jack Vettriano made his debut in the art world in 1988 at the Royal Scottish Academy, where his works were exhibited and quickly sold. From that moment on, his career took off. In 2004, Queen Elizabeth II awarded him the Officer of the Order of the British Empire for his contribution to the visual arts.

Vettriano’s works, suspended between elegance and mystery, display fascinating figures moving in retro-flavored scenarios, evoking the world of film noir. Light plays a central role: it cuts through the scene, creating shadows and contrasts that amplify the sense of mystery. Each painting is a story in which the viewer is free to imagine the before and after.

In addition to being an unmissable event for art enthusiasts, the Jack Vettriano exhibition at Palazzo Pallavicini is also an opportunity to discover the wonders of Bologna. Strolling under the porticoes, getting lost in the historic shops, exploring churches and squares: every corner tells a story. Are you ready for your next stay?
